"Atty General" Gonzales talks, Founding Fathers spin in graves:

So yesterday in front of the whole world, "Attorney General" Alberto Gonzales sez during a Judiciary Committee hearing:

"There is no expressed grant of habeas [corpus] in the Constitution; there’s a prohibition against taking it away"

Fuck those 200 years of history!
We don't need no stinkin' due process.

Apart from where in Article 1 where it spells out Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, the 6th amendment states:

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed … and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses."

Except in Bush world, of course.
Lo, the Military Commissions Act of last year.
One of many things that Bush used to figuratively wipe his ass with the Constitution.

Along with the 6th Amendment, they of course are not too fond of the 4th Amendment and they are trying to find a way to wiggle out of the illegal wiretapping of Americans that happened over 5 years.

I love the smell of burning papyrus in the morning..

I love the smell of our modern-day Marie Antoinette (Gonzalez) going to the guillotine. Can't happen soon enough.
