Change the Constitution?
Over gay marriage??

Yea, they're talking about it again, with support from the W, of course.
Let me get this straight, they want to amend the Constitution of the United States of America over this?
I thought we were done doing stupid things to this document with the 18th Amendment.
Hell, like Kinky Friedman (candidate for Gov in Texas) joked: Let them be as miserable as everyone else..
I love Kinky. He's a cigar-smokin' populist. We need more like him!
What this is, of course, is an appeal to their religious "base" in an election year.
Your life, your marriage, your family and your well-being have NOTHING to do with gays getting married!
And the irony here is that they are trying to STOP a group of people from doing that which they say is bedrock to society; commited relationships.
Because that's what marriage is.
And the other irony (well, maybe not the dictionary definition) is that NO ONE can come up with one legal reason for keeping gays and lesbians from marrying.
For the same reason that "separate but equal" was wrong, not letting women vote was wrong, not letting blacks and whites marry was wrong, so is this.
It is a violation of the 14th amendment, so maybe because of that, they want to add a new one.
Sickening.

Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean that those of us that do are wrong. The only reason why it needs to be added to the US Constitution is because we have way too many liberal judges trying to over turn what voters in many states have voted for. So if it is in the US Constitution they cannot just simply change it because they don't agree. The opponents of this admendment say it should be up to the states to decide and as I said the states have made laws and the residents of the states have voted against gay marriage and yet because of liberal judges take it upon themselves to say that they don't agrre with the law so they change it.
They don't agree with the law because there is NO legal reason to support it!

People said the same things about slavery and segregation, for crissakes.
This has nothing to do with "liberal" judges. They are interpreting the Constitution of the US.
And to top it off, why do you even CARE if two gay men get married?? Why? How does that affect you? Your job, your marriage?

Gay marriageis wrong! I didn't used to believe this, but here's my sad story:
I was happily married to the same woman for 25 years. Then, this homosexual couple moved next door. Soon after that, my marriage crumbled. Them homasexials did it; I know they did. God was punishing us for our tolerance.
Bill Frist is absolutely right. Banning gay marriage is the number one top priority right now; much more important than balancing the budget or bringing our troops home from Iraq.
It must be election time again; they're pulling out the staple issues. That is something I take issue with and wish I could staple their mouths shut.
Election time *and* low ratings = pull out the 'G' issue... got to git peoples' minds offa me, for heavens sake!!
Well, see, straight people have done such a marvelous job so far of making marriage a successful institution and spawning millions of healthy, well adjusted children. Despite how hard the nasty gays are trying to ruin their marriages.

Why don't some people get that marriage outside of a church is no more than a three way legal contract - two people plus the state. That's all it is, not a damn thing to do with sanctity or tradition or anyone's god or preservation of some holy union.

Actually, the wingnuts' gay marriage thing is great for progressives, because it always serves to illustrate how completely ridiculous the anti-gay-marriage crowd is. It's like the DaVinci Code publicity. Ha!

According to the National Center for Health Statistics www.cdc.gov/nchs, the last-reported U.S. divorce rate in May of 2005 was just under 40%. If members of the Republican Party are so concerned about protecting the sanctity of marriage, perhaps they should spend more time trying to identify why so many blessed unions are falling apart!

the only way that they can truly show they are in favor of protecting marriage is to support banning divorce in almost all circumtances.
they would have to support that, right??
