Local boy does good!

Well, at least for Republican standards, he got like 2.4 million in kick backs.

Whoops, he got caught, though.

Randy "Duke" Cunningham will be stepping down from his seat where he represents the all white, all wealthy enclave of Rancho Santa Fe here in San Diego County.

Over 5 years, old Duke took all kinds of bribes totalling that nice little figure, including a couple of antique "French commodes" worth like 7200 bucks. Did he crap in them? Enquiring minds want to know.

The investigation began when the Trib published a story questioning the sale of a house of his for a tidy profit. Defense contractor Mitchell Wade later sold the house for a 700k loss. Hey, what's several hundred million between friends??

Thing is? Our tax dollars that went to the contractor friends of the Duker total in the tens of millions.
What else did he cop to? Let's have a look:
Wire Fraud
Mail Fraud
Tax evasion

Not bad, even for a Repuke!

You know what republicans are saying: "Thank god the money didn't go to any social programs!"

Mike V: Have youheard about his yacht? It's called the Dukester. A defense contractor bought it for him. It's tethered in D.C.

Yea, I bought it and parked it in front of my house.
I'm going to turn it into a brothel that charges no money because the taxpayers have already been fucked bad enough by this guy.. :P

Jessica, never underestimate the ultimate value of a lapdance.

yep, the paper this morning verified, he gets to keep his pension.
at least for a while, that cash might get tapped into for some of his missdeads, but he'll get it either way.

Mike - I enjoy your comments on Dlisted.
I'm SDSU alum who moved back to LA after college because I couldn't deal with the whole conservative factor of SD (as much as I loved living there otherwise). The demise of Duke Cunningham is like a beautiful piece of performance art to me. I'll add you to my links. Sounds like you're the voice of reason in SD... you should run for office!

I don't have enough phoniness in me to run for office.. :)
Plus, as much as I get frustrated with the crap one has to deal with in corporate America, I can't believe what it must be like dealing in the political world.
San Diego did surprise me, too, as far as the conservative thing goes.
Coming from the Bay Area, I figured all of coastal CA was fairly progressive!
And had good crusty sourdough available. Not so, I'm afraid.
I will link you up as well, fellow Californian!
