OK, I know I said that I wasn't going to blog politically till next year..
But I had to say something about this because it's local.
(Escondido city) Council rejects winter shelter
This shit-hole of a city is north of me in San Diego County.
Now, the Salvation Army is not asking for money. They are asking permission to house people because it's fucking freezing outside. Literally.
“It's an awful position to put [u]s in,” added Councilman Dick Daniels. “It makes us sound like grinches and scrooges,” but, he said, “we've already done our part.”
Have you? What part is that? No one is asking for more money.
Stupid fucking assholes.
Merry Christmas.

Let me get this straight. Councilman Pohlman didn't want the shelter opened because it invited homeless from surrounding areas to use it. Yet he in turn forced 23 of his own area's homeless to go to other shelters because he refused to allow their own shelter to open. What a fucking moron.
On a lighter note, Merry Christmas to you too, Mike! :)
Merry Christmas, and enjoy the break from all things political! You need the break, because before you know it, it'll be an election year.
Mike - Happy holidays to you and yours!
Well, anyway... Merry Christmas!
I always knew the San Diego area was conservative, but it seems to be getting worse. I just read about a similar situation, in Carlsbad. There was an outdoor church and homeless shelter that had been there for years and years. But now some McMansions have sprung up all around it, and the newcomers have complained about it and it's been shut down by the authorities. Fuckin' Yuppie scum.
Remember Prague? Wasn't that peaceful?
Not that I'm blaming you for getting angry and swearing (on Christmas time?).It's cold, people are freezing, and other people who have it all deny their brothers and sisters a way to survive. It's disgusting.
I'll start swearing again in 2007. Meanwhile, have a good new year.
You're right.
I'm leavin' the cussing in, though. :)
Sorry, I just get too fired up sometimes..
Peace out!
I think it was also Escondido that a few years ago kicked a quadraplegic woman in a wheelchair out of the city's civic center auditorium because she had an assitance dog with her. And isn't it also Escondido that passed the law to require landlord's to evict illegal immigrants? Thanks to SD County for making us in the OC look like bloody commies!
That's a horrible story. I'm in MN and we have winter shelters all over the place for the homeless, obviously. It's necessary, not even up for discussion, and it shouldn't be. When we run out of room in the shelters we have a rotating thing with the churches. No one questions it and if they did they'd be ignored.
IMO, only a Republican would condemn someone to death because of the weather. That's what they're doing.
