We might as well finish the week raging about religious freaks

I'd like you to go over and read this column by Ellen Goodman from the Boston Globe.

To summarize, in clinical trials, a drug that as a vaccine looks to have cleared a major hurdle in stopping cervical cancer. For those that do not know, about 4000 woman a year die from it, roughly 10000 a year get it.

Why, you ask, would some one have a problem with it? Sex, of course.
Here's but a quote from Leslie Unruh of the National Abstinence Clearinghouse (an idiot, obviously):

``I personally object to vaccinating children against a disease that is 100 percent preventable with proper sexual behavior.''

I suppose that she can make that choice for her own children, but what happens if they marry someone that passes on (quite possibly unknown to the man) the human papilloma virus to his new bride? Never occured to this freak, I guess.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council (whatever that is) had this to say:

``It sends the wrong message. Our concern is that this vaccine will be marketed to a segment of the population that should be getting a message about abstinence.''

Um, ok. So we're going to doom some women to possible death because you don't want teenagers banging each other.

Did it ever occur to them THAT YOU CAN STILL DO FUCKING BOTH!!
You can teach the benefits of abstinence and still provide risk abatement.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???

These assholes are so hell bent on providing ONLY one answer to the age old question about what to do when your lower regions start to tingle, that they seem to have lost the ability to use logic.

I don't know what else to say. I'll just wind up getting more fired up.. :)

You're right, there's not much else one can say except that religious fundamentalism should be examined as a pathological disorder.

When I read this article in my local paper (which published it on the OpEd page like two days after the Globe did, of course) it made me see red.
I just can't get over what morons people are.

Just a question; is sex illegal or something? Is abstinence a new law? If not then she needs to sit down with a nice cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP! Since when are drugs and vaccines distributed based on someone’s personal beliefs? You know what else is preventable AIDS, OBESITY, LUNG CANCER, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE etc. Why aren't they standing on corners protesting McDonalds, or outside the Jerry Springer show protesting fat people?
