Back to the daily grind. If only that meant just coffee..
We had a lovely time, though.
Sunday started with driving up to Sonoma, going through inland Mendocino and getting beer with the hippies at Hopland Brewing (home of Mendocino Brewing beer) hitting a few wineries in the lovely Dry Creek Valley and spending the night at an Inn there (Geyserville Inn in case anyone is taking notes).
Nice little place.
That picture is from outside our room.
We had dinner at a small restaurant in town (and I use that term loosely with these little towns) called Santi. They had quail on the menu and it was delicious!
The next morning, we made our way through a couple more wineries after a late breakfast then headed up towards the Redwoods.
We stayed in Myers Flat at the Myers Inn and ventured around the towering trees on a few walking paths and along the river.
The big trees are truly awe-inspiring to turn a very over-used phrase. Nothing else seems to fit.
These ancient forests have to be seen to be believed.
We made our way back towards civilization, taking a detour down part of the Mendocino Coast, through Fort Bragg and the town of Mendocino, through Boonville to one of my Mecca's, Anderson Valley Brewing.
Oh, their beer is liquid heaven.
As we approached the Bay Area, the weather was kind of crappy, but we missed the weird summer/early fall rain that pelted them before.
It was cold and foggy at the Golden Gate (as it should be) and the scene at the bridge was just perfect.
End of my essay.

Also, you can see them all on my domain hosted site in a gallery I created last night.
The last one here with the barn is my favorite of the trip.
Boy, did I get lucky on this one!

Mike - glad to hear you and your wife had such a wonderful trip. Thanks again for sharing your spectacular pictures. The barn is something else, but I'm torn between the purple grapes, the Ferrari Carano and the Eel River late afternoon as my favorite picture though.
it was fun!
hard to be back to work, though. :(
Sounds like a great trip. I left California last year (Sonoma County); it was getting too crowded and gentrified. But I still miss it in lots of ways.
Sonoma has certainly changed, that's for sure.
For a person like me that lives in a more urban area, though, it still seems very rural. Except for the greater Santa Rosa area, of course..
I had an occasion to go thru Myers Flat last week and had the misfortune of meeting the rude obnoxious owner of Daily Grind coffee house. That man will go by way of a stroke the way he uses that filthy mouth of his. WHen will they open a friendly coffee shop there?
