Golden Ticket, good movie

Went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this past weekend
We both really enjoyed the movie. Depp and the rest of the cast do a great job, be he's still the anchor for the movie.
I see a lot of people making references to Michael Jackson when talking about Depp's take on Willy Wonka.
Not sure why, because like the Wilder version, this Wonka also does not really like the kids. Or the parents.
It's still all about the story here of Charlie Bucket being a poor, but good child as opposed to the other little snots competing for the big prize from Wonka, but CGI and special effects also play big parts. They could have played that down a little bit.
That being said, they kept to the story well and told the back story on Wonka and how he came to be the weird guy he is.
The Oompa Loompas still sing to us about the ugly little brats that get their's, but other than that, no other songs. No singing Willy, no Candy Man, no "I've got a golden ticket". None of that was missed by me.
This is first and formost a Burton version of the story we all know, and I liked it.
8.5 out of 10.
